It’s the Fifty-Ninth Annual
OzCon International
July 28-30, 2023 in Pomona, California
Kellogg-West Conference Center
Join us for three days of Ozzy fun and programming at the 59th Annual OzCon International! The wait is over... we’re back to a full three-day schedule of events at beautiful Kellogg West Conference Center on the Cal-Poly campus in Pomona. Near three major airports (Ontario, John Wayne, and LAX) and seated atop a wooded hill with lovely views, this site can feel almost like Oz itself!
Our 2023 theme is Oz in Animaton. For almost as long as Oz has been adapted for the big screen, it has also been adapted for animation in various forms. This year, we will be exploring how animators in the last century have depicted Oz, from cel animation to CGI. As well as animation, we will also be celebrating the centennial anniversary of Ruth Plumly Thompson’s 1923 book, The Cowardly Lion of Oz, featuring unique characters such as Notta Bit More and Bob Up.
Leading our line of guest speakers are members of the production team from “Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz”. As one of the latest animated Oz shows, “Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz” tied in elements of both the MGM movie and the book series and introduced a new generation to Oz. More star-studded guest speakers we currently have lined up so far include the production team from the short stop-motion film “The Tin Woods”, Oz scholar Dina Massachi serving up one of her signature talks on Baum and the evolution of Oz in pop culture, and Winkie Convention co-founder (1964) and Oz bibliographer Peter Hanff. Watch for further updates on guest speakers by following us on OzCon’s social media pages.
The fun will begin on Friday, July 28, with registration and single-track programming of talks and panels. After dinner, we’ll have the evening programming. Come catch up with friends and make some new ones!
Saturday, July 29th will offer multi-track programming throughout the day including the return of OzCon favorites: quizzes, costume contest, and the auction! And since this year’s theme is animation, keep an eye on the schedule for film screenings and Behind the Scene talks, as well as a special performance of an extremely rate Oz play! Don’t forget to check out our amazing dealers. It’s impossible to leave without new books or memorabilia.
Sunday, July 30th will end with single-track programming before we wind down.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner for each day will be served as well as the traditional Saturday night Banquet so make sure to get your tickets for all your meals when you get your convention tickets!
Our sponsor for 2023 is Wonderful Books of Oz; visit for rare Wizard of Oz books, sheet music and ephemera as well as works by W W Denslow and John R Neill!
